Psychic Temple Update (May 27, 2014)

Brand new windows, sconces, and surfacing–the exterior of the Psychic Temple is looking handsome. I love how JRVD cleaned up the look and reinforced the structural integrity while making use of existing elements. Just a few missing pieces–including keystones in front (by the main entrance) and openings in back (maybe fire exits?).

Business in the back, party in the front

The work site was closed today, so I climbed on the barrier and took a picture of the cleaned-up first floor over the wall. The new glass looks spectacular. Kind of like an anti-mullet, the Psychic Temple is party in the front, business in the back.

    Seamless and shiny

Brand-new windows are being installed on the first floor, breathing new life into the Psychic Temple and providing contrast to the cleaned-up and matched-up bricks and mortar as well. The seamless and shiny additions will continue on top and and in between…

The street level of the façade is being embellished, with cleaned-up bricks and I-beams as well as sections of glass and stone (that will match the original keystones) on the way. Views of the same surface from the inside, west… …to east. Meanwhile, the upstairs is on hold. Hi!

    Barricaded doors, crossed-out windows

The façade is still mostly boarded up but the I-beams have been cleaned up and look great. Secured doors and windows all over the second and third floors. How do the pigeons get in? When will they leave?

  • Half stories

    Half stories

Remember the 7-1/2th floor in Being John Malkovich? There are no such spots in the Psychic Temple and here’s proof. Above, the second and third floor. First and second floor, above. Basement and first floor, below. Guess all the weirdness will have to happen on the regular floors…

  • Clean

    Clean

Since all of the structural work is finished and efforts are being concentrated on the façade and exteriors, the floors are about as wide open as you’ll ever see them. The view from the stairs going up to the second floor. The second floor isn’t really this dark. Stairs to the third floor. (No, the…

  • New Faces (Welcome, jeffstaple!)

    New Faces (Welcome, jeffstaple!)

The scaffolding and tarp were removed from the Psychic Temple yesterday, revealing a brand-new face. Actually, the main entrance comprises bricks that were salvaged from the original structure and cleaned up. Next up is resurfacing and painting the old steel beams and installing glass to the first floor. And this morning,  the top floor hosted…
