Along with sunsets, windows, and kittens, stairs are among the most cliche subject of photography. With built-in geometry and trite symbolism, they’re low-hanging fruit. If I were a photography instructor, I’d flunk every student who walked out of the darkroom with images of stairs. But I’m not and here are some pictures of stairs as they looked yesterday at the Psychic Temple. Above and below: The entry to the upstairs.
Below: The somewhat grand, original staircase from the second to third floors might be the only item that has not been stripped of paint.
Below: Temporary stairway to the rooftop. The flooring in the foreground is temporary as well.
